After five years of legal residence, Brazilians can apply for permanent residency
Living in Europe is the dream of many Brazilians, and Ireland is one of the most sought-after countries. The latest data from Itamaray shows that the number of Brazilians who decided to live in European countries grew by 29% between 2020 and 2023, from 1.3 million to 1.6 million, according to UOL.
Ireland is attractive because it is a country where Brazilians, after living there legally for five years, can apply for permanent residence. To do so, they must pay a fee of approximately €500, or about R$3,100.
Those who obtain this benefit can work in the country for another five years without facing any bureaucracy. In addition, spouses and dependents can also participate in the process. It is one of the best opportunities, and also one of the most accessible, for those who want to live abroad.
Brazilians arriving in Ireland are given a clear path by the Irish government on what to do to maintain their legal status and also what to do if they want to extend their stay there.
Understand how the process works
The first step for this process to work is that you have already lived legally in the country for 60 months. How is this counted? It happens at immigration. When you pass through immigration, you receive stamps and also an Irish Residence Permit (IRP) card.
It is important to have this, because the periods you live there without any documentation are not taken into account. If you can prove that you have lived in Ireland for 60 months, legally and in accordance with the rules, you will be granted permission to stay there for another five years.
At a time when immigration is becoming increasingly complicated in many parts of the world, this means peace of mind for those who wish to establish a life abroad. The best part is that your family can also be included in this “package.”
Once you have obtained your authorization, you can also apply for Long-Term Residence for your spouse and dependents.
What other requirements are there?
There are a few more basic requirements for you to obtain this permit and live peacefully in Ireland and fulfill your dream of living in Europe. You will have to prove that you have work permits in the country.
You also have to demonstrate that you have not become a burden on the Irish government during your time there. Your conduct within the country also counts for a lot, so don’t get into trouble with the Irish police.
One of the most important points is to maintain a legal employment relationship, meaning that if you are self-employed, this process is not even considered.
Why is this attracting Brazilians who dream of living in Europe?
Those who dream of living in Europe have, in addition to their dream, the concern of not having problems with it. This document is a kind of guarantee that you can live your life peacefully in the country, without having to worry about returning to immigration all the time.
